Regarding lightning protection, the relevant standards do not specify exact measures; they only state that lightning protection needs to be considered for cables laid outdoors when they exceed a certain length. Imagine a lightning strike on a cable; what is the probability that the high voltage of tens of thousands of volts will flow toward the instruments on site while simultaneously threatening the control system? Does the system you are using have a lightning protection grid? Is it necessary?
In theory, it should be done in all cases, especially in the south. I have worked on several natural gas projects in Hubei. It’s not a matter of whether you want to do it or not; if you don’t carry out lightning protection monitoring, the local authorities will not approve the project. Although the probability of lightning strikes is low, I experienced a situation in a project in Singapore where the entire system stopped working during testing, simply because of a lightning strike one night – many AB modules were damaged as a result! If such an experience has occurred, then doesn’t the entire factory complex have any lightning protection facilities? If it’s possible to cut through the system, then wouldn’t the surfaces of taller metal objects like towers be completely burned away?
