What does crude vinegar mean?

Dilute acetic acid, dilute vinegar – I remember reading in a textbook that acetic acid is produced through the carbonization of coal.

\"Crude\" means unprocessed; is it acetic acid that has just been produced and not yet purified? Just call it pure acetic acid: lol
Coal is dry-distilled to produce gas, and that gas is further purified to yield acetic anhydride; could that acetic anhydride be the one the original poster is referring to? {:1_90:}
