Can dimethyl ether replace diesel, and what are its economic benefits? Where is the current bottleneck?
Dimethyl ether cannot completely replace diesel, as there are significant differences in their physical properties!
Methanol has many downstream products. As a fuel, it can be directly added to gasoline in M15 and M85 formulations, or it can be dehydrated to produce dimethyl ether for use as fuel. It can also be used to synthesize methanol-based gasoline. There is no evidence of its being used to replace diesel, as their properties are different
