One reason is that the steam pressure before the pressure reducing valve is too high compared to the designed pressure, making it difficult for the valve to achieve the desired pressure reduction; The second reason is a malfunction of the pressure reducing valve; mainly, the piston ring of the valve gets stuck, making it difficult for the ring to open and close, and as a result, the valve cannot provide an effective pressure reduction effect. This situation is quite common.
It is recommended to use imported pressure relief valves for steam, as they offer stable performance.

The throttle orifice plate of a pressure reducing valve typically allows for linear adjustment within a range of 30–100% as per national standards; flow rates below 30% cannot be adjusted effectively. Frequent fluctuations in flow rate can disrupt the proper operation of the system and lead to unstable outlet pressure. Therefore, in situations where flow rates change frequently, ordinary pressure reducing valves are not suitable for use.
