Dear experts: Is kerosene leakage the same as penetrant testing? Are they just two names for the same method?
There are two methods: for kerosene leakage, kerosene is sprayed on one side of the weld, while a white emulsion is applied to the other side in order to check the quality of the weld； Penetrant testing is a surface inspection technique in which a penetrant is sprayed on one side of the weld, cleaned off with a cleaning agent, and then a developer is applied to the same side; capillary action is utilized to detect any defects such as cracks in the weld.
They are not the same thing; a penetration test requires the application of a cleaner, a colorant, and a developer. If there is a defect, dark spots will appear; it is not possible to determine whether it is a through defect. Kerosene penetration testing can detect through defects – even defects with just a few milliliters of penetration per day can be detected. At high temperatures, observation must continue for 12 hours; once the kerosene dries, it needs to be reapplied.
