What is the process of adding sulfuric acid to the main feedwater?

Today I encountered a situation regarding the selection of a flow meter; the measurement point is for the main feedwater flow. However, they mentioned that 30% concentrated sulfuric acid is added to the water, and I’m not sure what the purpose of doing this is. Aren’t boilers generally equipped with demineralized water? I don’t think sulfuric acid is added to them. I hope someone who knows more about this can explain the relevant knowledge; thank you!

Also, their pipes are made of ordinary 20# steel, with no anti-corrosion measures at all. I think since they’re not even concerned about boilers, what’s there to worry about with my flow meter? Just using stainless steel will do :)
