What is the purpose of the water seal installed at the outlet of the coal-lock gas holder?
During maintenance, the gas pipeline is sealed with water to prevent gas from flowing back.
The water seal of the gas holder functions as the outlet valve of the gas holder; when it is necessary to release gas outside, the water in the water seal is drained, and the gas then passes through the water seal to reach the external area. During isolation, water is added to the water seal to prevent gas from escaping.
Under normal circumstances, it’s not just the outlet that has a water seal, right? A water seal is also installed at the inlet of the gas tank; after purging the tank during maintenance, the inlet and outlet water seals are sealed off and welded.
Firstly, the gas tank is a atmospheric pressure gas tank of the floating roof type, which floats on a spiral track. It is equipped with maximum and minimum limit switches, namely a low alarm and a high alarm. During normal operation, as the amount of air entering the tank changes, the tank floats upward; as a result, the bottom of the tank is filled with water up to the upper position, with the water overflowing. This arrangement serves two purposes: it provides sealing and protection. During maintenance, or when the high alarm is triggered, it prevents gas from flowing back
The water seal at the inlet and outlet of the gas holder serves to isolate the gas holder from the systems ahead of it and behind it during maintenance or shutdown. The water seal provides excellent gas sealing, preventing leaks and ensuring the safety of maintenance operations.
It serves to block air and also acts as a riot shield.
The inlet and outlet pipes of the gas holder have a large diameter and low pressure, and water seals are installed at these openings to isolate them from the outside environment.
