What is the fundamental difference between 32# and 46# turbine oils? Can the two be used together or interchangeably?
It’s mainly the viscosity that differs; ignoring everything else for now, it’s best not to mix or switch types of lubricants. When choosing lubricating oil or grease, we primarily consider the formation of the oil film, and this is related to our speed of operation as well as the cooling conditions of the bearings. Generally, higher speeds require lubricants with lower viscosity, while higher speeds necessitate the use of grease or lubricants with higher viscosity.
