I graduated this year with a degree in chemical process engineering. I currently work as an operator at a large chemical plant at home. I want to learn chemical process design on my own; I’ve bought manuals on the subject, but I don’t have any practical opportunities. Can I really learn anything this way?
Of course it works; the key is to combine theory with practice and compare the on-site situation with the design manual. Of course, what’s really important is to think things through by oneself.

It is useful to communicate more with those on the production line, as operators have a lot of experience, though they may lack theoretical knowledge. Communicating more with them is very beneficial

Original poster, read more about the standards; by relating them to actual outcomes, progress will be faster. The difficulty in shifting from production to design lies in the fact that the standard regulations are hard to memorize, but they are easier to understand

First, take a good look at the pipes, instruments, valves, etc. in the factory, then think about why they are arranged in that way, and refer to the books as well
