It is generally believed that the temperature of the flue gas exiting the chimney of a heating furnace should be no less than 170 degrees, but in our facility we have chimneys with temperatures of 110 degrees, 150 degrees, and 130 degrees – these are the temperatures at the entrance of the chimneys. I also think the 170-degree limit could be changed; what do you all think?
It can be modified, as long as it does not cause low-temperature corrosion.
This post was last edited by zgj2405 on 2011-4-17 09:31. The flue gas temperature should be no more than 135 degrees, right? If the fuel gas has good properties, it’s possible to reduce this temperature to around 110 degrees. This is more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
The modifications we are making now basically ensure that the exhaust temperature does not exceed 120 degrees. Of course, on the condition that your fuel is desulfurized
The dew point corrosion temperature can be calculated based on the fuel conditions, and then the flue gas temperature can be determined; of course, a lower temperature results in higher thermal efficiency and significant energy-saving benefits.
Sinopec’s headquarters requires that the exhaust temperature of heating furnaces be below 170 degrees, but this requirement is too strict. Currently, various units control the exhaust temperature based on the sulfur content in the flue gas. To avoid corrosion, it is generally considered appropriate for the exhaust temperature to be 20 degrees above the dew point temperature. Currently, cast-iron plate air preheaters are being used in China, which can effectively prevent dew point corrosion, allowing the flue gas temperature to be reduced below 100 degrees!
:I have a small question, L. . . If a heating furnace uses natural gas as fuel, is the sulfur content in the flue gases very low? :D :hug: If that’s the case, from the perspective of dew point corrosion, is it possible to lower the flue gas temperature significantly, for example to 80 or 90°C?
This seems to be related to the dew point; it doesn’t appear to be a mandatory requirement, right?

Ours is a conversion furnace with a flue gas temperature of 160℃
