Reuse of gaskets

Every time there’s a maintenance task, I see that many gaskets need to be replaced, and it seems a shame. I wonder whether these wound gaskets and octagonal gaskets can be reused, or if some technical treatment is needed before they can be used again
Used gaskets no longer have the same resilience as those that are brand new; definitely not safe to use them anymore. If they have suffered plastic deformation, then they certainly can’t be used
The performance of used gaskets is definitely degraded, and there are significant risks associated with using them
If it’s heat-treated and then surface-treated, it should work.
Reply to 4# penryn: Is it really necessary to use something that’s not worth much as a gasket? How much does heat treatment cost...
Metal wound gaskets cannot be reused; these gaskets are often used in situations with high pressure and toxic or flammable media, so one should not sacrifice the bigger picture for minor gains
When using a metal wound gasket for the second time, it depends on the type of process pipeline it will be used in; it can be used in ordinary low-pressure pipelines, and we often do this, but attention must be paid to the quality of installation
It’s not worth stopping work just for one gasket, so it’s better to use a new one.
Agreed. Don’t lose the big picture over small things; the cost of shims isn’t high either
