Regarding the distillation feed issue

This post was last edited by wawjia on 2010-12-2 20:31. What are the differences between feed to a distillation column, saturated liquid feed, and saturated steam feed? How will changing the feed from saturated liquid to saturated steam affect those process parameters of distillation?
It changes the vapor-liquid loads in the distillation section and the stripping section, and in severe cases it affects the composition at the bottom and top of the tower
There are 5 states regarding the feed condition: 1: Subcooled liquid feed; 2: Saturated liquid feed; 3: Gas-liquid mixture feed; 4: Saturated steam feed; 5: Superheated steam feed. The different feed conditions directly affect the ratio of liquid flow to rising steam flow in the distillation section and the stripping section, thereby influencing the efficiency of distillation
Agree with the view above; generally, a saturated liquid feed is preferred, and a cold feed is also good option, though it results in slower operation. The feeding method to be used varies depending on the specific circumstances
