Does a high residual carbon content in the feedstock affect the color of hydrotreated diesel? ? ?
High residue carbon has little impact on diesel color in the short term, but it has a significant effect on the stability of catalysts. If high-carbon residue feedstocks are processed for extended periods, the catalyst deactivates rapidly; the reaction temperature becomes very high thereafter, and the color of the diesel will not improve, mainly due to the thermodynamic equilibrium of aromatics. I’m puzzled – where does all that residue come from in diesel? It must be gums.
