Today I read about a desulfurization process; what is the function of the liquid seal tank installed after the desulfurization tower?
This liquid seal is essentially a safety seal; its function is to release pressure when the pressure in the desulfurization unit suddenly increases due to the compressor stopping operation.
This liquid seal tank is called a safety water seal; it prevents gas from flowing back and damaging the Roots blower during power outages, trips, or compressor failures, thus avoiding damage to the blower due to reverse rotation. This water seal is essential in such systems.

The compressor trips and the pressure in the Roots pump increases; pressure can be released through the water seals behind the cooling tower and the cleaning tower. Then why is a liquid seal tank installed behind the desulfurization tower? It seems that this liquid seal tank is over 6 meters long; one end of it is connected to the top of the liquid-rich tank, and the other end is connected to the bottom of the desulfurization tower. Additionally, I noticed that this liquid seal tank has only one drain valve – no valve for adding water
Prevent semi-water gas from entering the rich liquid tank regeneration system when the desulfurization tower level is low.
