My university graduation project involved developing a microcomputer monitoring system for the phenol purification plant. Even now, more than a year and a half after graduating, I still don’t understand what the process of phenol purification entails. Could any experienced colleague explain it to me? Thank you!
Furfural refining uses furfural as the refining solvent. Furfural is a solvent with high selectivity; it has a strong ability to dissolve the non-ideal components of lubricating oils (polycyclic aromatics and naphthenes with short side chains, as well as compounds containing sulfur and nitrogen), but a weak ability to dissolve the ideal components (hydrocarbons with few rings and long side chains). And it has a large specific gravity difference with the lubricant components at temperatures below the critical temperature. By utilizing these properties in the production process, furfural and the raw materials come into counter-current contact within the extraction tower and separate into layers, thereby separating the ideal components from the non-ideal components of the lubricating oil. Through furfural extraction, it is possible to remove undesirable components, thereby improving the viscosity-temperature properties, antioxidant stability, and color of the lubricating oil, as well as significantly reducing its acid value and residue.
