We all joined the company through graduate recruitment for the new 100,000-ton coke oven gas-to-methanol project that was set up in our factory. There are hardly any related majors, and there aren’t many science-related majors either. I also graduated from a junior college in the humanities. I have now been assigned to a conversion role. After 4 months of training, I am fairly proficient with the processes, and I also have a clear understanding of all the equipment and pipelines involved. But at the moment, I don’t have a clear idea of what to focus on in my studies. I would like to ask the teachers here: what aspects should I prioritize in my further learning for this role, what are the most important things to keep in mind, and what considerations should I bear in mind as I progress in my work. First, learn the *theory; without it, it’s impossible to understand what’s going on on site. Start by looking at the operation procedure flowcharts, then follow the pipelines to understand the key points of on-site control. After that, go to the control room to learn how to perform *operations – most of the work is done there, as nothing can be seen on site. Then combine theory with practice, and explore while drawing conclusions. Keep learning*. Furthermore, the central controller must have good psychological resilience!

The conversion unit is a relatively dangerous and important part in the process of producing methanol from coke oven gas; it serves as a connection point between different stages of the production process. Outages in water supply, power supply, as well as issues with coke oven gas, oxygen, and steam can all affect this unit. By combining on-site operations with centralized control, learning the tasks involved can be done quite quickly!
The conversion process is considered a risky task by many people. In fact, as long as you pay close attention to every step of the driving process and ask experienced individuals for help when you encounter questions, the conversion process designed at the second factory has quite a few issues; therefore, it requires operators to have strong adaptability. In Xi’an, one starts with the process flow diagrams and draws them several times a day, summarizing on their own the functions of the pipelines, valves, and instruments each day. By going through the start-up and shutdown processes several times, one will eventually understand it.
Hello, where is your factory located? Take the process flow diagram and compare it with the actual situation on site; theoretical knowledge needs to be combined with practice.
