Does anyone among my fellow marine industry professionals know which domestic manufacturer uses heat-wall type synthesis towers? Heat-wall type synthesis towers have very high requirements regarding materials; it seems that no company in China uses them yet. Are they already common abroad?

As far as I know, there are no plants in China that use hot-wall synthesis towers; the manufacturing requirements for the tower’s outer shell are extremely high, resulting in high costs. Such shells must be able to withstand both high pressure and high temperatures, and they also need to resist hydrogen and nitrogen corrosion. As a result, the material requirements for these towers are very strict, which in turn leads to high manufacturing costs.

A cold-wall ammonia synthesis tower is one in which low-temperature gas is passed between the outer wall of the synthesis tower and the catalyst inner cylinder, so that the catalyst and the high-temperature reaction gases do not come into direct contact with the inner wall of the synthesis tower’s shell, thereby preventing the outer cylinder of the tower from being exposed to high temperatures. In a hot-wall ammonia synthesis tower, the catalyst is in direct contact with the tower wall either directly or through an insulating layer; as a result, the tower wall is subjected to both high pressure and high temperature. It can be simply understood as a synthesis tower that lacks an inner cylinder, with the catalyst being placed directly inside the outer cylinder.
Reply to 4# zxzxx321: Are you sure? In a hot-wall type synthesis tower, the wall temperature is roughly the same as the catalyst temperature. The requirements for materials are extremely high.
