(III) Booster switchover 1. Contact the reaction-regeneration team to prepare for the switchover. 2. The operating unit and the switching unit should simultaneously operate to slowly open the outlet valve of the switching unit and close the outlet vent valve; at the same time, the outlet valve of the operating unit should be slowly closed while the outlet vent valve is opened. This process continues until the outlet valve of the operating unit is closed, the outlet vent valve is open, the outlet valve of the switching unit is fully opened, and the outlet vent valve is closed. Maintain stable pressure and flow at the booster outlet during operation to prevent the booster from spinning out of control. 3. Follow the normal shutdown procedures for the operating machine.

Slightly close the standby unit’s vent valve and open the inlet valve to build up pressure, so that the pressure in the standby unit is about 0.01 MPa higher than that in the unit being switched out; then gradually connect the standby unit and disconnect the unit that is in operation

Switching between two booster pumps in parallel 1) Before switching, the standby booster pump is started to vent and operate at low load. 2) After the standby unit passes the trial operation, prepare for switching. 3) Adjust the inlet flow and outlet pressure of the standby unit so that its outlet pressure is slightly higher than that of the operating unit. 4) Slowly close the outlet valve of the operating unit, then slowly open the outlet valve of the standby unit. Then open the exhaust valve at the operating unit’s outlet, and close the exhaust valve at the standby unit’s outlet. Repeat the operations in the above order, using small amplitudes of movement to ensure that the outlet pressure and total air volume of the booster remain constant. 5) Until the standby unit is brought online, the original operating unit shall be taken offline. 6) Shut down the original operating machine following the normal shutdown procedure.
Start the standby unit according to the unit startup procedure, increase the pressure, and prepare for unit replacement. Slowly open the outlet gate valve of the standby unit, close the vent valve, and at the same time close the outlet gate valve of the operating unit. Slightly open the outlet vent valve (with the maximum opening not exceeding about 5 turns) ; or 15%) until it is completely replaced. After inspection, it was confirmed that the standby unit was operating properly, so the original operating unit was shut down. When the oil pressure drops after shutdown, the auxiliary oil pump should start automatically; otherwise, it must be started manually. Continue to turn the machine; once the oil temperature drops below 35°C and fails to rise again, stop the oil pump, close the water valve of the cold oil cooler, and cease turning the machine.
It seems that switching the extractor at the inlet of the booster is rather troublesome; it’s much more difficult than switching the main fan. Are there any specific precautions? I hope all the experts can share your experience
I would like to ask whether the opening degree of the inlet valve of the booster needs to be adjusted during the switching process. What effects will occur if, before the standby unit is pressurized with air, the inlet valve is fully open and the outlet vent is also fully open?
Is it a big problem if there’s some fluctuation in pressure? When switching between reciprocating machines, the standby machine is always started first to take on the load, while the original machine has its load reduced. If the switch-over is smooth, there is little pressure fluctuation, and the counterflow valve is used to regulate the pressure. It would be much better if it were variable frequency.

After the standby unit is activated, the inlet and outlet valves as well as the vent valve of the two units are adjusted in coordination to carry out the switchover. We have used this method. Now we use another method: 1. Turn on the backup machine. 2. Follow the switching procedures to gradually integrate the standby unit into the pressurized air system; during this integration process, any excess air volume in the pressurized air system is returned to the main air supply through the main air pressure control line, thereby maintaining a stable pressure in the pressurized air system. 3. Bring the standby unit online; once both units are operating steadily, gradually remove the main booster pump from the system. 4. Shut down the main booster pump in accordance with the normal shutdown procedure. I feel this operation is a bit simpler! I hope everyone will point out any mistakes!
I used it today; it’s quite easy to use
