In the context of instrument valves, we generally define valves with a pressure rating of 600 lb or higher (PN110) as high-pressure valves; of course, some manufacturers consider valves with a pressure rating of 900 lb or higher (PN160) to be high-pressure valves as well. In terms of design, many valves are designed to handle higher pressures, such as globe valves and gate valves; the pressure rating for these can reach Class 4500 lb, and I have not come across valves with such high pressure ratings before.
Valves should be classified according to the process; different processes require different methods for distinguishing between high and low pressure. For example, when LNG is re-vaporized, pressures of 900 LB are considered high; generally, pressures below 600 LB are used in power plant boiler feedwater cycles, while 1500 LB is quite high, and 2500 LB is even higher. Small instrument valves for supercritical steam pipelines, numerous needle valves with a pressure rating of 4500LB or higher. Some domestic books provide meaningless classifications or misleading information when taken out of the actual operating environment of valves.
