The catalyst was not properly loaded, there were issues with the distributor, and the temperature sensing element had problems. It is mainly caused by deflection.
Control of the temperature in the same plane of the catalyst: Due to various factors, temperature differences can occur across the radial cross-section of the catalyst at the same level, which renders it difficult to have an accurate basis for operation. As a result of these temperature differences within the same plane, some of the catalyst in the tower is unable to function properly, thereby reducing the conversion rate of CO and the production capacity of the synthesis system. To prevent such temperature differences, it is necessary to maintain stability in the load on the synthesis tower as well as the temperature of the material entering the tower.
It is also possible that uneven distribution is caused by such unevenness. Taking the methanol tower as an example, temperature has a significant impact on the reaction rate and equilibrium; in low-temperature areas, the conversion rate is low, fewer reactions occur, and the catalyst’s temperature rise is also small, further increasing the temperature difference across the plane.
