We are currently using a 1903 gas analyzer for gas analysis, and the analysis time is quite long; we would like to replace it with a 1904 gas analyzer. I would like to ask everyone, how long does a full analysis of 1904 roughly take? Also, is it suitable to use 1904 when the hydrogen content is below 10%? Thank you all.
This post was last edited by jackwen on 2010-12-22 at 10:28. We only use the 1904 model; I’m not familiar with the 1903 model. The full analysis with the 1904 model takes 15–20 minutes. When the hydrogen content is below 10%, the 1904 model should be used for analysis, taking into account the explosive range of hydrogen. However, if the hydrogen level is below 10% but there are other gases such as CH4 present, it should still be possible to conduct the analysis. I recommend using the 1904 model as it’s very convenient. If the hydrogen level is too low to reach the explosive limit, it means the situation is already safe; even without specific data, this indicates the safety status.
Chromatography is still more convenient. I used an Otsuka gas analyzer for analyzing flue gas in the past, but it was only suitable for analyzing oxygen, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide – tasks that are relatively simple.
The 1904 gas analyzer can be used to analyze components such as CO2, CnHm, O2, CO, CH4, H2, and N2. When analyzing CH4 and H2, the explosive combustion method is used, rather than the slow combustion method with a platinum wire as employed by the 1903 gas analyzer. The explosion combustion method is characterized by the shortest analysis time, making it most suitable for production control analysis. You have not specified the composition and approximate content of your gas. If the concentration of flammable gases in the sample (including CH4 and H2) is too low, falling below the lower explosive limit, or if adding sufficient air does not raise it to that limit, then 1904 is not suitable.
Many of these classic analysis methods are no longer suitable, especially for hydrogen levels below 10%. There is the instrumental method, which is fast, accurate, and safe.
