Detection device: Full-bore electromagnetic flow meter (Kaifeng). Medium under measurement: water. Pipe diameter: 450. Used in the cooling water circulation system for valves in iron smelting hot blast stoves. This system is a closed-loop system equipped with an expansion tank. Due to on-site constraints, it is now planned to install the return flow in a vertical pipe with the fluid flowing from top to bottom! Installation requirements for electromagnetic flowmeters: the pipe must be fully filled! With the return pipeline meeting the above conditions, it should be possible to ensure a full pipe; but is it still necessary to take factors such as gravity into consideration? Electromagnetic flowmeters cannot be used under negative pressure.
If there are sufficient reasons to overturn it, a design change can be requested! I know that if an electromagnetic flowmeter is installed in a vertical pipe, the fluid must flow from bottom to top to ensure the pipe is filled! Measure whether the conductivity of the water meets the requirements; the medium must fill the entire tube, and it is best to ensure that the tube is full from bottom to top. The electrodes must be level; if they are not, the measurements will be inaccurate. Proper grounding is necessary, as well as a reliable straight section of tube, away from high-power electrical equipment.
There will be errors from top to bottom, I guess. Take a detour if possible.
An electromagnetic flowmeter equipped with a lined mesh can withstand negative pressure. If process validation shows that the pipeline from top to bottom can ensure it remains full at all times, then the flow meter can be installed from top to bottom. Many of our customers also install electromagnetic flowmeters in pipelines that run from top to bottom.

As mentioned on floor 7, install it vertically, from top to bottom, to ensure there are no issues with the pipe being fully filled. I have a set of imported equipment here that uses this installation method and has been in use for over a decade without any problems.
