Acid is added before the refined brine enters the resin tower to control its pH; a pH meter is installed on site, but its accuracy is doubted. Using test strips provides a relatively broad range of measurements, while using a pH meter yields less accurate results (as the pH is alkaline, above 8.5). The measurement of pH value can only be carried out through online monitoring using a pH meter, which is a relatively accurate instrument. If you are concerned about its accuracy, have the instrument technician calibrate it daily using standard solutions. It’s more troublesome this way, but the accuracy of the measurements will be higher.
Brine is fed into the resin tower once in order to remove trace amounts of calcium and magnesium ions; generally, the pH level is required to be neutral or even slightly acidic, and using online pH monitoring is a good approach for this purpose. However, due to the very high sodium chloride concentration in saltwater, conventional pH electrodes become unstable, resulting in poor reliability and accuracy of the measurement results. It is recommended that the poster use online pH meters and probes that are widely recognized in the industry; they may be more expensive, but their performance is much better.
