Technical Discussion: Exploration of Fillers for Circulating Water Cooling Towers

This post was last edited by hesonchang214 on 2011-3-29 at 22:36. Our company currently uses TX-type membrane fillers in its cooling towers, which are made of modified PVC. Inspections have shown that the lower layer is severely clogged, resulting in poor water distribution and cooling efficiency. It has been decided to proceed with a replacement. I was wondering what kind of packing is used by other units, and what the results are like?

We use energy-saving spray cooling towers; they contain only misting devices and are essentially empty, which results in a much better cooling effect. These towers perform exceptionally well in Henan, Shandong, Shanxi, Shaanxi, and the provinces to the north. A water pressure of over 1 kilogram at the zero level of the tower is sufficient, which is less than that required for packing towers, and the power consumption of the fans is even lower! The water collector is specially designed so that it doesn’t freeze, and there are also anti-icing nozzles around the inside of the tower. If packing is used, it’s better to allocate some extra budget – not much, actually – for upgrades. The manufacturer can provide the misting devices, specially designed water collectors, and blueprints, and one can carry out the installation themselves!
