What is the difference between a pressure regulator and a control valve?

When heating with blast furnace gas, what is the difference in temperature control between adjusting the main pipe pressure and using the corresponding increase/decrease valves? The previous technician, after measuring the temperature during straight-line operation, would always adjust the valve or extend the heating time to correct the abnormal temperature of the vertical flame channel; whereas the current technician tends to adjust the pressure instead... I really don’t understand this. I hope fellow experts can offer some guidance
Adjusting the pressure is a control for the entire furnace, while adjusting the individual throttle valves is used to fine-tune individual combustion chambers. It depends on the circumstances.
When the straight-through temperature is good and the furnace tip temperature is low, does applying pressure help to increase the furnace tip temperature?
