Questions regarding soft-sealed check valves

I have a question regarding soft-sealed check valves: Under what circumstances should soft-sealed check valves be used? ---For high-pressure nitrogen on our end, soft seals are required; I don’t understand why. What is the difference between using soft seals and hard seals?
Soft-sealed designs provide good sealing performance, but they are generally not used in conditions with high temperatures or media that are not very clean.
