Our company has launched a new project for the production of nitric acid, with pipes made of 304L material. Temperature gauge casings made of 304L were not available, so the purchaser recommended using temperature gauge casings made of 316L material. Can 304L and 316L materials be welded together? What welding rod should be used? (The internal medium is dilute nitric acid)

I’m not familiar with the welding requirements. Could you tell me if the method used upstairs meets the welding standards?
It is possible to use A103 electrodes; it is better to bake the electrodes before welding!
Using 316L welding rods or wire is absolutely fine; we also use TIG welding for this purpose. Since a sleeve thermometer is used, the diameter of the main pipe should be no less than DN80.

Both ER308L and ER316L are suitable

Hehe, I just checked – it lists various steel grades there. I’m not very familiar with 304L and 316L grades, but it seems they’re mentioned in Table D.0.2; take a look there. If they’re not listed, we’ll have to think of another solution
These two materials are commonly used in industrial pipelines, especially in fertilizer production projects; well-established welding techniques exist for both of them, and A102 can also be welded
