What is the function of the water seal tank used when heating up the Texaco gasifier (what was taken into account during design)? Why doesn’t water flow through this pipeline when many manufacturers increase the temperature? What are the hazards to the gasifier if this pipeline is not used?
I work for Texaco; let’s talk about Asami! You mean that the water seal groove is used, primarily based on the principle of a communicating vessel, to maintain a certain liquid level at the bottom of the quenching chamber in order to ensure effective oven drying, right? In my opinion, its main purpose is to maintain a certain water level, thereby regulating the size of the air passage and keeping the amount of suction within an appropriate range. In fact, since different manufacturers use different fuels for drying the ovens, the amount of steam used for extraction varies, which means that the operating procedures differ from one manufacturer to another. To achieve a more efficient and consistent drying effect, most people no longer use this type of equipment! In my opinion, the main hazard of not using a water seal tank is that it increases the volume inside the quench chamber; when there are fluctuations in the pumping process, a large amount of fuel gas can accumulate, leading to explosions that are relatively more dangerous……
Theoretically, discharging from the black water pipeline or directly should have little impact; it is designed for safe and stable operation. However, most manufacturers do not use it nowadays in order to simplify operations and reduce the amount of work required. (The above are personal opinions)
So, is it necessary to establish a liquid level for heating the gasifier? Some units do not have a level gauge installed; why is that?
I already said upstairs that, in my opinion, the purpose of constructing a liquid level is to minimize the space in which explosive gases could accumulate, while still ensuring that pumping can be carried out effectively. But in practice, the procedures vary; some units can indeed ensure safety based on experience, so they do not install level sensors……
We hardly use them; moving the blind flanges around is extremely troublesome

This is the water seal tank used during furnace drying; it utilizes the principle of U-tubes to control the liquid level in the quench chamber of the gasification furnace during this process, thereby preventing the liquid level from rising too high and flowing over the downcomer, which could cause backfire. Before starting the machine, this water seal tank must be removed from the system, the valves closed, and a blind flange used to block the flow; it is then reactivated during shutdown for cooling purposes. In fact, many factories have already stopped using this water seal tank; the factory I am currently working at is one such example. Personally, I think it’s better to keep it in use. Although experience has shown that it’s fine to shut this tank down, from a technical standpoint, it’s safer to keep it operational – which also avoids the need for repairs related to the guide blocks and blind flanges.
The design institute will not agree to cancellation, as it is based on safety design considerations; if there are problems as a result of cancellation, it would be their responsibility
As long as there are normal channels for discharge, that’s sufficient. If the oven liquid level is controlled using a water seal tank, as the oven temperature rises, the negative pressure increases as well, causing the liquid level in the gasification furnace to rise; this can sometimes lead to blockages in the downcomer. Direct discharge of the lock comb can solve this problem.
We don’t need it; different temperature increase stages require different amounts of water. Later on, the drainage from the tank may not be fast enough, which could likely lead to tempering
