The power plant’s comprehensive office building, 3 floors. Designed for a seismic intensity of 7 degrees. Grade 2 rebar is selected for the foundation. Reinforcement for beams and columns shall use grade 3 steel bars. The owner believes that grade 3 rebar is only used in buildings with 10 floors or more. It should all be changed to grade 2 rebar. The structural engineering team believes that the price difference between grade 2 and grade 3 steel bars is not significant at present. The basic reinforcement is for structural purposes; the total amount used is taken into account. The same amount of grade 2 and grade 3 steel is used, with grade 3 being slightly more expensive, so grade 2 is chosen. As for the reinforcement in beams and columns, since the strength of grade 3 steel is slightly higher than that of grade 2 steel, the total amount of reinforcement required is approximately 20% less compared to using grade 2 steel. The price of grade 3 rebar is about 5% higher than that of grade 2 rebar. Considering all factors, grade 3 steel bars are economical and practical. The project owner also requested limited design. But thinking about this management model, setting limits is also difficult. Are there separate limits for engineering design requirements? I think it’s only the general contractor’s project limit that could work!
