We use coal; natural gas is too expensive. Residual oil can be refined into asphalt, so coal remains the most cost-effective option.
We have developed a system for producing synthetic ammonia from the coke oven gas generated in coking plants, with the subsequent production of urea. This approach offers advantages both economically and in terms of environmental protection. Coking plants already have an excess of coke oven gas, and any excess amount is burned off using flares; as a result, every coking plant has a large flare that operates continuously. However, the scale of this design depends on the amount of rich coke oven gas available to determine the scale of ammonia and urea production.
