Discussions on adding alkali in MTBE plants

It is well known that MTBE plants face acid-related problems; for this reason, my team has conducted numerous field investigations, and we learned that some plants add inorganic bases to the system for neutralization, with significant results. Currently, I have installed a diverter on the outlet pipeline of the extraction water pump for adding a neutralizing agent. However, due to the issue of alkali embrittlement, no suitable neutralizing agent has been used until now. I would appreciate it if experts could share their opinions on the disadvantages and advantages of using alkalis, as well as recommend good neutralizing agents.
The pH value of the extracted water is tested once a week; if it turns acidic, fresh soft water is added to replace it.
Alkali embrittlement will not occur if the pH value is kept below 8! ! !
