I would like to ask the experts: how are the sensitivity and resolution of instruments defined? Could you elaborate?
Sensitivity refers to the degree to which a measuring instrument is sensitive to changes in the parameter being measured, or in other words, its ability to respond to changes in that quantity. Resolution refers to the ability to clearly distinguish the smallest intervals between the materials being examined. These two concepts are somewhat similar, but not exactly the same.
Sensitivity: The change in the response of the measuring instrument divided by the corresponding change in the stimulus. Resolution: The smallest difference in value that a display device can effectively distinguish. For digital display devices, this is the change in the displayed value when one significant digit in the least significant place changes. Resolution: The sensitivity of the instrument divided by its range. Note the difference between the resolution and the resolving power of instruments.
