This post was last edited by gader on 2010-12-27 at 22:26. There are many foreign-brand membranes used in ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis systems, such as those from Dow, Hydranautics, and Toray from Japan. What are the advantages and disadvantages of these membranes, and which one is better?
First of all, it’s not clear which aspect the original poster intends to use: reclaimed water reuse or desalination of brackish water. DOW, Toray, and Hydren each have their own characteristics. Currently, Toray membranes are used in the world’s largest seawater desalination and wastewater reuse projects. Dow has the highest market share globally. Toray’s ultrafiltration technology is likely the most distinctive among these three; it represents one of the few PVDF external-pressure ultrafiltration systems on the international market that are manufactured using TIPS technology.
