I would like to ask what the full name of carbon ammonium solution is. I know that methylamine solution is called ammonium carbamate solution; which of the two has a greater corrosive strength? Is it acceptable to use 304 material gaskets at the flange connections of pipes using carbon ammonium solution?

It can be used as a nitrogen fertilizer; since it can decompose into three gases—NH3, CO2, and H2O—thus disappearing, it is also known as a gaseous fertilizer. The raw materials for producing ammonium carbonate are ammonia, carbon dioxide, and water. Ammonium bicarbonate appears as colorless or light-grained, plate-like or columnar crystals. It is a nitrogen fertilizer that does not contain sulfate ions; all three of its components serve as nutrients for crops. It contains no harmful intermediate products or final decomposition products, and its long-term use does not affect soil quality, making it one of the safest types of nitrogen fertilizers. The corrosivity of methanamine solution is definitely greater than that of ammonium carbonate solution; if it is ammonium carbonate solution at low temperatures, it is recommended to use 304L material at least. Ordinary 304 is generally only used in pipelines for dilute ammonia at low temperatures.

The ammonium carbonate solution and methylamine solution mentioned by the original poster are part of the urea production system; methylamine solution is more corrosive than ammonium carbonate solution. Using 304 gasketing for the piping connections related to ammonium carbonate solution is fine – that’s how we do it in our company.
