During the process of preparing to discharge the ash, since the circular door had not been closed yet, the left ash hopper exploded. Where did the gas come from? Please help analyze it, thank you.
OP, what measures will you take if you don’t shut down the furnace? How can it be ensured that the furnace remains operational? Is a measure of sealing it with a gate valve being used? If so, the reason is that the gate valve is damaged and does not close properly. If there is an upward draft of air, then gas will leak out.
Give full consideration to the sealing performance of the automatic ash discharge system and the stability of the gas furnace conditions – the cause can be easily identified through the quality of the discharged ash.
The oxygen-enriched furnace operates with continuous top-blowing; the ash hoppers on both sides are equipped with automatic ash discharge valves. When discharging ash, the inner valve closes while the bottom valve opens to complete the ash removal process. After ash is discharged, the bottom valve is closed and the inner valve is opened. Intermittent furnaces can also enable ash discharge without shutting down the furnace. In our plant, it is likely that a blockage in the pipe used for cleaning the furnace bottom caused gas to mix with the ash in the hoppers, leading to their explosion.
