If it’s a centrifugal pump, it’s possible that the cap used to fix the pump impeller to the pump shaft could become loose, resulting in a loose fixation of the impeller. This could lead to friction or even collision between the impeller and the pump casing, thereby damaging the pump. If it is a gear pump, a small oil pump is no problem. Large pumps also have lock nuts at the pump shaft end; if rotated in the opposite direction, these nuts will become looser, preventing the pump from rotating. It is best for screw pumps not to be able to rotate in reverse.

Reply to 3# Hebei Hengsheng Pump Industry: What you said is basically correct, but we have used several rotor pumps in one of our projects – they had 3\" connections, with feeding occurring in reverse rotation and discharging in forward rotation – and it seems no problems arose as a result.
If reversing causes the pump pressure to drop, it will not meet the requirements

For example, what happens to a centrifugal pump used for reflux in a tower when the fluid flows back from a height of more than ten meters, or even higher? The cap may loosen, the mouth ring can deform, the shaft may bend or even break, and the dry gas seal ring that cannot be reversed will crack..........
