Our plant’s sulfur recovery unit uses the Super Claus process. Since the acid water contains hydrogen sulfide and methanol, it was originally designed to be sent to the wastewater treatment plant. However, due to the strong odor of hydrogen sulfide and strict inspections by the local environmental authorities, water washing is no longer carried out. Over time, this can have a negative impact on the catalysts used in sulfur recovery. Is it possible to send this acid water to the methanol wash tower in the low-temperature methanol washing system? I’m not sure at the moment; do colleagues have any experience in operation? Would everyone like to share their opinions? Our acid water volume is about 2t/h.
Finally, this acidic water is sent to the gasification and coal grinding unit; it goes there so that it can be burned in the gasification furnace!
It should be feasible to send the exhaust gas to the low-temperature methanol wash tower as part of the washing water.

If gasification is used for producing gas from water-coal slurry, it is recommended to send it to the gasification and slurry preparation process; otherwise, sending it to wastewater treatment is more appropriate.
