As the name implies, the function of a pressure reducing valve is to reduce pressure; it takes a fluid with a high pressure, usually a gas, and lowers its pressure to the lower level desired.
As the name implies, it is used for pressure reduction, in situations where pressure needs to be lowered from high to low – for example, from 10 bar of steam to 4 bar of steam – and a suitable pressure reducing valve can be installed for this purpose.
Pressure control valves used in chemical processing plants are generally classified into control valves, pressure reducing valves, and safety valves. Control valves can automatically adjust the system pressure within a certain range, while pressure reducing valves are used to reduce pressure from one level to another lower fixed level; they are much cheaper than control valves.
