In one of our workshops, a distillation column is not achieving the same level of separation efficiency at the top as before, even though the operating conditions remain unchanged. Could anyone help analyze why this is happening?
The packing is clogged or damaged, and there is a problem with the distributor; check the packing and the distributor.
It’s very likely that the distributor is clogged. I have encountered this situation before; it is best to treat the material in the packed tower in order to ensure efficient distillation.
Possible reasons: 1. The packed tower has high requirements for the distributor; is there any blockage?; 2. After prolonged use of the filler, does significant wall flow or corrosion occur? ; 3. Have there been any changes in the operating conditions? The original packed tower is not suitable for the current conditions.
Analyze whether there have been any changes in the raw materials, and secondly, check if there are issues with the distributor packing
The distributor of the packed tower may be clogged, resulting in wall flow and channeling, which leads to a decrease in mass transfer efficiency. It is also possible that the filler has been corroded and accumulated together, reducing its specific surface area.
