In our company’s closed-loop water system, the circulation valves need to be adjusted frequently; sometimes the number of heat exchangers in use varies, which results in different water volumes reaching the upper tower. The five standpipes leading to the tower go horizontally to the top of the cooling tower, while another route leads vertically into the atmosphere (it can go directly into the atmosphere in order to allow hydrocarbons to be present in the water). The valves of the five vertical pipes leading to the upper tower are kept at a constant opening level under normal conditions; when the water flow to the upper tower increases, it is necessary to adjust the opening of these valves immediately, otherwise water will spill out from the top of the pipes, which causes problems in winter. Air is discharged vertically by using a bypass valve to regulate flow from the vertical pipe into the bypass pipeline tower or the pipe leading up to the tower
Thank you for your reply. Yes, using a bypass valve for adjustment is a good idea; we have one as well. However, in winter, water flowing through the bypass pipeline into the pool causes water to spill outside the pool.
This can be determined through calculation; the height of the discharge pipe must be greater than the pump’s head.
Just raise the vent pipe; there’s no need to make it as high as the pump’s head. Just increase it to a level higher than the return water pressure.
