The hoses at the inlet and outlet of the anode solution have changed color; the hydrochloric acid contains 500 ppb of iron, while the saltwater has normal iron levels. Yellowing occurs severely when acid is added – the color turns yellow in a short time – and it fades again when no acid is added
I’m not sure how the acid addition system is designed in your cells – where is the imported acid added, and is there any brackish water returned to the cells? Is the amount of acid added excessive? It’s normal for the anode outlet to turn yellow
Reply to 2# yyhhhao: Does the design include a return pipe for brackish water? If so, that’s normal, as the free chlorine in brackish water can oxidize the inlet hose and cause it to turn yellow.
What material are your pipes made of? If they are plastic pipes and have turned yellow, it is likely due to plastic aging or oxidation.
We have options to return to light saltwater and add acid; the inlet hoses are not very yellow – they are basically white, and we haven’t encountered that issue before.
The main reason is the high content of iron ions, which can be traced back to the magnesium ions in the saltwater. Since the level of magnesium ions is high, more ferric chloride has to be added. It is important to keep an eye on the magnesium ion levels; as these levels decrease, the amount of ferric chloride added should also be reduced accordingly.
Check 1: Iron content in the first-stage brine; 2. Check the return flow rate of the anode solution within the system ; 3. Check whether the amount of acid added to the anode solution is within the specified range ; 4. Check whether the material of the feed pipe meets the standards.
