The issue regarding the flow rate of gas released: The flow rate of gas released is not measured directly using a flow meter; rather, it is calculated as the difference between the readings from the flow meters of other gas-using units and the flow meter installed on the main gas pipeline. The problem is that when gas release is stopped, there should be no flow rate indicated. Yet, calculations based on the readings from various flow meters show a significant flow rate of gas being released. What exactly is the problem? Is there an issue with the accuracy of these flow meters? All of the gas flow meters used are V-cone type flow meters. Please give me some advice.
There is a lag effect in the impact of releasing the shutdown and startup on the flow rate of pipelines and equipment.
If this occurs under normal conditions with no leakage, could it be a problem with the flow meter? If it’s a problem with the flow meters, which one is more likely to be faulty?
I don’t know whether the device used in your facility to measure the gas flow rate is a differential pressure orifice plate flow meter. If it is, then factors such as the selection of the flow meter, the diameter of the orifice plate, the location and method of installing the pressure tapping pipes, the installation location of the flow meter, the levels of moisture, naphthalene, and tar in the gas, the range of the flow meter, and the calibration of its accuracy all have an impact. It’s quite normal for two flow meters to give inaccurate readings. As long as the difference isn’t too large.
