The design pressure commonly referred to is determined based on the operating conditions, but the actual pressure at which the pipe can be used is much higher than that specified in the design for those conditions. For example, a 1” Sch80 pipe can be used at a design pressure of 150#, and it can also be used under conditions of 600#. The wall thickness of butt-welded pipe fittings is generally the same as that of the pipes.
