The production of acetic anhydride, divinylbenzene, sorbic acid, and other products through the pyrolysis of acetic acid involves pyrolysis furnaces. It is understood that in China, the capacity of mature pyrolysis furnaces used in the industries producing divinylbenzene and sorbic acid is only 5,000 tons per year; whereas the pyrolysis furnaces employed by companies such as Solutia (Nanjing), Ningbo Daan, and Wuliangye Push Group have a capacity of 10,000 tons per year. We ask the professionals on this forum to discuss in detail the following questions: 1) Are the pyrolysis efficiencies of these two types of furnaces the same, and are there different requirements for pyrolysis furnace products across various industries? 2) The localization status of large-scale pyrolysis furnaces, as well as a feasibility analysis on replacing natural gas with gas and its industrial application. 3) Other related issues.
The gas cracking furnace currently in use here performs fairly well, but it has not yet met the design requirements.

Reply to 1# ghyjy2009: The pyrolysis furnace in China with an annual production capacity of 5,000 tons of DK is a vertical furnace equipped with 168 tubes, and it uses gas as fuel. This furnace is a replica of an imported one, and it performs quite well. It is said that the pyrolysis furnace equipped with 219 tubes at Wanglong in Zhejiang has stopped operating.
Many pyrolysis furnaces in China use coal gas produced by coal gas stations as fuel, but the utilization rate is not high. Moreover, the problem of combustion pollutants has not been resolved; emissions generally occur at a height of 35 meters
The furnaces with an annual production capacity of 10k and 5k differ only in the diameter and length of the furnace tubes; there are no significant differences in their design. Currently, the price of natural gas is higher than that of gas; from a production cost perspective, gas is more economical. However, the treatment of tar and phenol, which are by-products in coal gas production, is quite difficult, and the sulfur and nitrogen oxides contained in coal gas also need to meet environmental regulations.
