Why is it necessary to hold the motor in the start or stop position for a few seconds when starting or stopping it? What’s the reason for this? Some say it’s for time-delay protection; are there any other functions?
Staying at the starting position is a protective measure for motor startup; generally, large motors use reduced-voltage starting to prevent the motor from being overloaded and damaged during startup. When stopping the motor, it is necessary to provide a dwell time for the contacts in the motor’s main circuit and control circuit, such as those in the contactor.
