The butt welds of the cylinder made of 316L material are welded using the GTAW+SMAW method. The welding materials selected for the process qualification are as follows: GTAW: ER316L; SMAW: A022 (E316L-16). Then if the base material is changed to 316, how should the welding material be selected? Am I still going to choose the above process evaluation? Is it reasonable?
I don’t think it’s very reasonable: 1. Both 1.316 and 316L are foreign grade designations, and in principle they need to be re-evaluated; 2. If classified according to our standard grade designations, they should fall into Group VII-2, which isn’t a problem, but since different welding material grades are used for 316 and 316L, re-evaluation is also necessary; 3. This is for the company’s future development as well as for regular inspections by higher-level authorities.
