The steam or hot water serving as the heat source for the heat exchanger enters the plate heat exchanger through the supply port on the primary side of the unit. The low-temperature return water from the secondary side passes through a filter to have impurities removed, and then it also enters the plate heat exchanger via a circulation pump. The water at these two different temperatures undergoes heat exchange, with the heat from the secondary side being transferred to the end users. The heat exchanger has the most compact structure, with the U-tube type being comparable to the floating-head type. Fixed-tube-sheet heat exchangers are the most economical, while floating-head heat exchangers are less so.
