If all the resins used for the purification of brine in chlor-alkali production, as mentioned by the original poster, are regenerated using hydrochloric acid.
Hydrochloric acid is generally used; if sulfuric acid is used, there is a concern about the formation of calcium sulfate. Calcium sulfate has low solubility, and it may precipitate and cause scaling.
I have a question: can sulfuric acid be used for this as well?
Sulfuric acid cannot be used. Won’t any residues have an impact on the performance of the ion-exchange membrane?
