How is internal operation controlled, and what are the extraction temperatures for the side streams of atmospheric and vacuum distillation columns? Is it due to mid-section backflow and the extraction volume? Some expert, please explain in detail; I would be extremely grateful! :)
The main focus is on controlling the extraction temperature, and by adjusting the balance of the entire tower, the process requirements are met. The extraction amount is a fine-tuned value.
It depends on what type of distillation column you have. For tray columns, it’s possible to control the process using the draw-off rate and the reflux below the draw-off point. However, for packed columns, the draw-off rate cannot be used as a control parameter; instead, control must be achieved through the reflux rate, the amount of superheated steam injected, and the furnace outlet temperature.

In float valve towers, temperature is primarily controlled by side draws. The adjustments are mainly made based on the desired product quality. Moving from the bottom upward, the regulation of intermediate reflux and overhead reflux is determined by changes in processing volume as well as the thermal and phase equilibrium within the tower
The temperatures of the atmospheric and vacuum side streams are influenced by a combination of factors, including overhead reflux, mid-column reflux, side-stream draw rate, and feed temperature. Each of these factors has a significant impact on the side-stream distillation temperature. Therefore, adjustments should be made holistically, taking into account both product quality and yield indicators, rather than focusing on just one parameter alone.
The furnace exit temperature, tower pressure, and mid-stage reflux jointly determine it
