I work at a cold rolling plant. Our pickling line uses 30% hydrochloric acid to prepare 18% recycled acid for use in the pickling process. Recently, corrosion issues occurred in the equipment used for acid recycling, and it is preliminarily believed that hydrogen fluoride is present in the hydrochloric acid. Is fluorine generally present in industrial hydrochloric acid? What are the common reasons for fluorine being present in hydrochloric acid?
